Calculate your price to Brussels Airport
For people in Ghent, Brussels Airport is the airport for almost everything: the city break, the business trip and the long-haul flight with a connection. By train you first have to get to Gent-Sint-Pieters, find the right platform with your suitcases and possibly change in Brussels. By car you face the E40 towards Brussels, a motorway that rarely has a good day during the week.
With GateRide you avoid both. Your driver comes to you, whether you live in the city centre, Mariakerke or Merelbeke, and you only get out at the departures hall. The price is fixed per town: no pickup surcharge, no meter and no parking charges. You pay in cash on the day.

The route: E40 east, then the R0 north
From Ghent your driver takes the R4 or the B401 to the E40 towards Brussels, past Wetteren, Erpe-Mere and Aalst. If you live in Deinze, Eeklo or Evergem, you join the same motorway a little further west. At Groot-Bijgaarden he leaves the E40 for the Brussels Ring (R0) heading north, past Zellik and Wemmel and over the Vilvoorde viaduct, to the airport exit. That way you stay well clear of Brussels city traffic.
Timing: the E40 and the Vilvoorde viaduct
The bottlenecks on this route are well known: the E40 between Aalst and Groot-Bijgaarden in the morning rush, and the Vilvoorde viaduct, where roadworks or an accident quickly cause tailbacks. Early flights are therefore the easiest: if you leave at night, you usually have a clear run. For a mid-morning flight, allow a generous margin.
Plan to be at Brussels Airport two to three hours before departure. You choose your own pickup time and the owner confirms your request personally by email. Only then is your ride confirmed.
The return trip to Ghent
On your return your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall on level 0, by the information desk, with a GateRide sign. Choose a pickup time about 45 minutes after landing for a Schengen flight, or an hour for a flight from outside Schengen; waiting time is included in the price. If you land on a weekday around 5 p.m., you will hit the evening rush on the E40 towards the coast, but the price stays the same. If you are delayed, let your driver know by phone or WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Ghent – Brussels Airport
I live in the city centre, where car access is restricted. Can the driver reach my door?
Because of Ghent’s traffic circulation plan, cars cannot drive freely across the centre. Suggest a convenient pickup point close to home in your request, for example on the R40 inner ring road, and getting in will be easy.
Is Brussels Airport the best choice from Ghent?
For most destinations, yes. Charleroi can be worth considering for low-cost flights, but it is further away. The price table shows the fixed price from your town to every airport, so you can weigh it up yourself.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes. In ‘My trips’ you can cancel free of charge until the deadline shown in your booking, by default twelve hours before pickup. Need a different time or address? Send a change request and your driver will confirm it.
Prefer to call or send a message?
For custom rides, large groups or questions: you’ll talk to the driver directly.
