Taxi from Leuven and the Hageland to Brussels Airport

Zaventem is just down the road, but with suitcases and a flight at dawn that short hop feels very different. Your driver comes to you in Leuven or the Hageland and drops you outside the departures hall at Brussels Airport.

Calculate your price to Brussels Airport

Few parts of Belgium are as well placed for Brussels Airport as Leuven and its surroundings. From Heverlee, Kessel-Lo, Herent or Kortenberg you are there almost before you have settled into your seat, and Tienen, Aarschot, Diest and Landen are all close to the motorway. That is exactly why many people assume a taxi is unnecessary. Until the alarm goes off at four, the first bus is still in the depot and two large suitcases and a pushchair are waiting in the hall.

With GateRide your driver comes to you. He rings the bell at the time you choose, loads your luggage and heads straight for Zaventem. You pay one all-in fixed price from your own front door: no pickup surcharge, no meter and nothing extra when the Ring is jammed. The owner drives every ride himself and personally confirms your request. You pay in cash on the day of the ride.

Fixed price per ride, not per person. VAT, luggage and pickup waiting time included. The calculator shows the exact price for your town. Drive times are estimates in free-flowing traffic, rounded to 5 minutes.

A short hop: via the E40, the E314 or the back roads

From Leuven your driver usually takes the E40 towards Brussels and leaves it at the Ring (R0), where the airport exit follows almost immediately. If you live in Aarschot, Rotselaar or Diest, he first follows the E314 until it joins the E40 near Leuven. From Haacht the N21 through Kampenhout and Steenokkerzeel is often the most direct route, from Tervuren the ride goes via the Brussels Ring, and in Tienen and Landen the E40 is practically on your doorstep.

Short does not always mean quick. On weekdays the E40 towards Brussels clogs up early, and a single accident near the Ring interchange can disrupt the whole morning. Your fixed price is not affected, but your pickup time should allow some slack. The journey time in the price table is a guide without traffic.

Taxi or train from Leuven?

Direct trains run from Leuven station to the airport, and if you live near the station and travel with just a backpack, that works well. For the rest of the region it is a different story. From Diest, Aarschot, Tienen or Landen you usually change in Leuven or Brussels, and from Haacht, Rotselaar or Tervuren you first have to reach a station at all. With plenty of luggage, children or a very early flight, that quickly becomes a puzzle, especially as the first trains of the day do not always leave early enough.

A pickup at home is also popular with people working at KU Leuven, at imec or on the Haasrode Research Park. Researchers flying to a conference, visiting professors arriving for a semester, expat families heading off on holiday: they would rather have one appointment with one driver than three connections. A receipt, also in your employer’s name, is available on request.

Coming home from Zaventem: met in the arrivals hall

On the way out your driver drops you right outside the departures hall, so you can walk straight to check-in or bag drop. For the return, book a ride from the airport and add your flight number. Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall; the exact meeting point is in your confirmation. If you are flying in from outside Schengen, choose a slightly later pickup time, as passport control takes a while.

If your plane lands later than planned, send a WhatsApp message or give a quick call. Your driver does not track flights automatically, so a short message makes sure he is there at the right moment. Soon afterwards you are back at your own front door in Leuven, Tienen or Diest, suitcases and all.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about Leuven & Hageland – Brussels Airport

My flight leaves very early. Can I be picked up in the middle of the night?

You choose your own pickup time, even for a flight at sunrise. Because every request is reviewed personally, send yours in good time: your ride is only fixed once you have received the confirmation by email.

What if the E40 is at a standstill?

Your driver then takes an alternative, for example the old Leuven road (N2) through Kortenberg. The price stays the same whichever route he takes. That is another reason not to cut your pickup time too fine.

Which price applies if I live in a village that is part of a larger municipality?

Just type the name or postcode of your village into the price calculator: Wilsele, Wezemaal and Kumtich are listed just like Leuven, Rotselaar and Tienen, each with its own fixed price. Cannot find your village at all? Ask for a tailored quote by sending a WhatsApp message.

Can I be dropped at a different address when I come back?

Certainly. The outbound and return journeys are two separate rides, each with its own address. You could leave from your student room in Heverlee and be dropped at your parents’ house in Aarschot on your return. The price then depends on the town of the drop-off address.

Prefer to call or send a message?

For custom rides, large groups or questions: you’ll talk to the driver directly.
